Two Family Faculty members have told us why they are involved in the PenCRU Family Faculty, and give examples of how they have worked with us.

Why are you involved in the Family Faculty?

"I really enjoy coming along to the meetings. It feels like a bit of 'me' time out of my busy, hectic life. It's very social, it's great fun, and ultimately it gives me some self esteem"

"I can really see the benefit of parent involvement in academic research, and on a personal level it makes me feel valued"

Karen Rees

How have you been involved in a PenCRU research activity?

"Being involved with putting together a training project which was then actually going to be rolled out to all the staff on a children's ward was hugely exciting because this was a project that we could see through from start to finish that was directly going to impact the lives of disabled children going forward. To me that just summed up the true worth of why I'm getting involved with things at PenCRU"

"I felt pleased to be able to contribute, and felt confident that the time I spent reviewing the document was going to be helpful to the researcher and bringing a real world perspective to their work, which will in turn hopefully help other parents and professionals researching the topic in the future"
